Information for Faculty

Skills

The University Library provides a range of support to help your students develop their skills at all stages of their academic studies, from skills sessions delivered in the classroom (either virtual or face to face) through to one-to-one appointments.

Library induction

We recommend that all students new to Northumbria are given a general Library Induction and you can book induction sessions for groups or cohorts at any time throughout the academic year. These dynamic and visual sessions will help your students find resources for their subject areas and learn about the support available.

The Library offers a standard 30 minute induction which can be booked via timetabling during Welcome weeks.  If your students require an induction at another time please get in touch.

Alternatively, students can access  on online version of Library inductions from Skills Plus.

Skills support from pre-entry to taught postgraduate level

Skills support online

Skills Plus is the Library’s collection of online learning materials with a focus on digital literacy and learning skills that can be accessed on and off-campus. These resources enable students to develop their skills through a range of interactive presentations, quizzes, video demonstrations and printable help guides. Skills Plus learning objects can also be embedded into your own information literacy and learning skills sessions/modules.

The Library regularly reviews content available through Skills Plus and we welcome suggestions for additional material from academic colleagues, we are particularly keen to develop the section linking to academic feedback. Please contact the Skills Development team with your suggestions and feedback.
